The advantages of the material ... |
|
| The
popularity of limestone as a construction material is accounted
for by its relative availability, excellent technological
processability, irreproachable physical characteristics and consumer
properties. The natural origin of the stone - being a nature-created material, limestone itself is a part of this living nature and can therefore blend harmoniously into human habitat, together with ceramics and natural wood. High strength and durability – buildings of limestone have survived a history of over 5000 years. Unlike other walling materials, limestone acquires extra strength after years of interacting with outer environment. Strength, homogeneity and solidity of the material in its full thickness – the stone is quarried from a solid rock massif by means of sparing cutting of massif in full length of horizontal technological ledge without blowing up, drilling or fracturing the massif. The homogeneity and solidity of the material has been formed by nature over many millions of years without any human intervention. Historical authority and authenticity – the advantages of stone have been proven over thousands of years of its application. The most grandiose projects that have made their way through epochs to our times certainly attribute historical authority and authenticity to this stone. Even when the buildings made of this stone were destroyed by man, the stone found its replication in new creations. A vivid example is the well-known Bridge of Concord that was built of limestone of the ruined Bastille in Paris. Grace and decorativeness – the decorative qualities of this stone improve over time acquiring antique and elite charm. Products made of this stone are simple and undemanding in processing. The properties of the stone allow to perform the most complicated and delicate carvings of architectural forms of products. The stone is excellently processed. It can be chopped, sawn, cut, burnished, glazed, polished and it keeps the edge perfectly. Its color range includes a wide spectrum of natural colors and tones including pastel shades. Air and vapour penetrability – stone walls can breathe naturally, maintaining the natural microclimate balance of the premises and the environment. These qualities prevent vapour and moisture accumulation, formation of fungi and mould spores inside the apartment. This way the risk of occurrence and development of allergies and respiratory tracts is eliminated. The stone is a natural antiseptic and antiallergenic agent that possesses vivid biologically active qualities. Limestone powder never settles in human lungs or causes allergic reaction. From time immemorial limestone was used for water conditioning and water purification in food industry, as well as for fruit-tree protection from insects. Limestone is a natural thermal radiation absorbent – it is characterized by outstanding thermal conductivity parameters and a great capacity for heat preservation. As a facade material this stone absorbs the heat radiated by the sun and protects the building from undesirable heating. Thus there is a good reason why limestone is preferably used for facades of buildings in southern regions. Limestone is characterized by extremely low own radiation background in comparison with all the other construction materials used by man. The parameters of limestone can only be compared to natural wood of ecologically clean areas of the planet. Its own total background does not exceed A1 57 Bq/kg. It is five times lower that the natural radioactive background of a man’s habitat in ecologically clean areas and nine to ten lowers than that of industrial regions. Limestone is characterized by electromagnetic transparency. The material is transparent for electromagnetic waves of the atmosphere. When using limestone in construction no distortion of the natural electromagnetic field occurs. It does not produce any effect on the magnetic background of human habitat, neither does it contribute to the formation of unfavourable geopathogenic zones inside the dwelling. The stone is a part of living nature. Unlike man-made artificial materials such as brick or concrete, the stone has natural force and energy fields. Does not accumulate static electricity – due to the nature of limestone it oes not accumulate static electricity. Moreover, it prevents dust formation inside the dwelling thus eliminating the risk of various nose, pharynx and lung diseases. Limestone is characterized by excellent sound isolation properties. Limestone can be compared to concrete in its high density. It is monolithic through the whole material structure. Its porosity attributes to limestone excellent sound isolation properties. Pronounced economic effectiveness is one of the main features of limestone – it is characterized by low energy intensity of quarrying, producing and processing, high speed and performance of finished products assembling at the building site using the minimum amount of machinery, mechanisms and workforce on the building site. |
